ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Hailing from Papua New Guinea, the worlds’ most linguistically and socially diverse locale, the JCDS: Journal of Communication and Development Studies (formerly titled the JLCS: Journal of Language and Communication Studies (ISSN 1992-1322) is published biennially by the Department of Communication and Development Studies at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNG) and the UNESCO Chair in Quality Management of Higher Education and Lifelong Learning of “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu (Romania).

Papers covering English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or English for Special Purposes (ESP) can consider any aspect of the areas, including: classroom research, EAP/ESP methodology, course design, material design, genre analysis, rights analysis, critical EAP/ESP, reading and writing, testing and evaluation, computer-mediated language learning, EAP/ESP research, quality assurance of academic programs, and socio-linguistic influences on the teaching and learning of EAP/ESP.

For contributions covering Communication for Development (C4D) topics, the journal welcomes papers on aspects of the field of communication and development, such as:

  1. Media and communication;
  2. Language and society;
  3. Teaching development theories and practices;
  4. Sustainable Development Goals and development;
  5. Disaster and safety/risk management;
  6. Modernisation and development;
  7. Impacts of development (social issues/problems, land mobilisation, community resilience);
  8. Gender and development;
  9. Climate change and development;
  10. Social Mapping and development, etc.

Empirical (quantitative) or qualitative approaches to relevant topics are equally welcome. Papers which bridge the two larger fields of interest in an innovative trans-disciplinary fashion are particularly encouraged.

The main objective of JCDS is to provide an intellectual platform for international scholars and to promote interdisciplinary studies in Communication and Development studies. JCDS publishes original papers, review papers, analytical and simulation models, case studies and book reviews. JCDS is inviting papers for the upcoming 2020-2021 issue of the journal, which will be dedicated to the life and work of our late colleague, Rhonda-Eva Gwale.
